5-petal rose tutorial

Sorry for posting this only now. Been very busy lately. I haven't even properly celebrated my birthday last week.

Today's project is how to make this kind of roses.

We need the following.

Color the gumpaste with your desired tint. I chose lavander here since it's what I needed for my cake.  As you could see, I am using 2 5-petal cutters slightly different in size. Aside from these, you also need a #22 flower wire which you could find in your local baking or craft stores.

Bend the tip of the wire as shown above and dip in your edible glue. Get a piece of gumpaste, form it into a tear, and stick the tip of the wire.

Leave the buds to dry overnight. Believe me, drying it overtime would make the process much easier.

Role out your gumpaste and use the smaller 5-petal cutter (which you could buy from online store Baking Buddies from this post).

Thin out the edges with a ball tool, on top of the flower foam.

 \
When done, turn it upside down. Push the middle of each petal with the ball tool.

Pinch/role the edges out as shown in photo.

Put glue on the edges of the petals.

Get your bud and stick it on the middle part of the petals.

Bring one petal up. Skip one petal and bring the next petal up.

The remaining 3 petals become your second layer of petals.

Get another set of petals and do the same process. This becomes your 3rd layer.

For the next layer, I used a lighter colored gumpaste to create an effect.

Get your bigger cutter. Cut two more sets. Do the same process with both.

Et voila! You have your rose. Just let it dry. You may add some luster dust after.

Happy sugarcrafting!

Easy gumpaste rose tutorial

This is by far the easiest way to make a gumpaste / fondant rose. I believe it is called Chef Duff's rose.

Mix your gumpaste with fondant. 50/50 would give a good result. You may also use fondant mixed with tylose. Tint it with your favorite color.

Roll out your gumpaste and use round cutters to cut out your petals. Cut out 5 petals (but you can also use 3).

Line them up as shown above.

From the bottom part, roll the petals up.

Et voila!

Cut in half.

Spread the petals out. You may pinch to thin out the edges of the petals.

And there you have it!

Forgive my color stained fingers, they're the least photogenic. Haha!

Here are some cakes and cupcakes where I used this flower.

Where to buy your caking tools online

Hi everyone! It has been a while since I updated this blog. But I am resuscitating this from now on to share what I am up to and hopefully, dish out some tips, tutorials, and cake news. My way of giving back to the medium that taught me everything I know about caking. ^_^

When I started baking and cake decorating in 2010, there was a dearth of cake decorating supplies available in confectionery stores, and the ones available are too pricey especially for someone who is just starting. But in less than a year, online stores started cropping up, with cheaper tools coming from US and China. Oh how they made life easier for me!

Well, I would love to share with you my trusted online stores. I would be updating the list from time to time so I think it would be best to bookmark this entry. ^_^
